I was struggling with how to reach my target audience of African American upper elementary students given the current political backlash for anything perceived to be diversity, equity or inclusion. Aside from feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and unpopular I joined EPM with a mustard seed of faith that I would learn actionable and productive ideas on how to engage this audience. To my delight I learned low to no-cost marketing strategies such as chatter boxing. It is from chatter boxing that I obtained my first student. i also gained the confidence in the following fact: parents and guardians want the young people in their lives to know themselves through personal knowledge of their cultural heritage and history.
