2020 • Finding Gold in Your Golden Years

" I started EPM with only a desire to expand my coaching business which in itself was meager. This was because I didn't have a clear mission or niche. I was sort of letting that stuff evolve over time. In a sense, EPM was part of the ""over time piece, but it shot me forward in narrowing my niche and helping me to create a vision for my business- -a future self. Building, marketing, and delivery of my course is the personal and professional journey that continues even though I have not yet met Mission Accomplished.
Perhaps it is my age (I'm 71 and move slower than I used to), or it is my first foray into the world of business, (my background is education, human services, and theatre), or I am learning totally new skillsets than I have had to use in the past, or a combination of all three, but Speed of Implementation has not been a distinction that I have mastered. It is frustrating and yet is a distinction in which I have the opportunity to practice acceptance of that which is. All throughout the course, it has taken me a bit of time to hit a milestone.
I have to congratulate myself for hitting milestones. Throughout my career, I have produced results but I haven't imaged myself as a results producer. Consequently, I don't celebrate my results. This class has taught me to become conscious of my wins so that they can be celebrated. Celebrating one milestone at a time to iterate my way to awesome.
Another incredibly important part of my journey is creating a mission statement that is the foundation upon which all else is built. Without it, there is no integrity in my course creation. I have been changing and altering my mission statement up until the end. I noticed that when I have considered taking an action, I check it out with the mission statement to see if there is alignment. Insofar as my course is concerned, to paraphrase a bit of the 12 Step recovery program that I use in my life, ""I turn my will and my life over to the care of my mission statement"".
Through some limited Chatterboxing I have discovered that perhaps my course needs to change or be altered. Now I am going to continue to Chatterbox and Give Them What They Want with greater intention and purpose as I discern what will be the most helpful to people and what they would pay for. Leaving myself vulnerable during these Chatterbox sessions while I listen for what will truly serve them is somehow challenging for me, even with my background in teaching and coaching. But it is exciting as I can see how the course will be even more magnificent when I am finished. I look forward to starting the course on the last Saturday of February."
